New Richmond Teen to be Honored as a Pepsi Everyday Freedom
Hero Prior to Reds Freedom Hero Game

Cincinnati, Ohio (August 8, 2006) --- Seventeen year-old Diedra Thacker witnesses
teens her own age in New Richmond, Ohio dropping out of school, being kicked out
of their homes and living on the streets with no hope for the future.  Diedra decided
to do something about what she saw.

Dee takes the time to talk to these kids about the freedom that education can
provide. She finds ways to encourage each of them, highlighting each one's own
unique gifts and talents. She helps them make the connections they need to find a
successful path to finishing their high school education.

Diedra's remarkable passion to help teens achieve success will be honored on
Wednesday, August 9th, prior to the start of the 7:10 p.m. Reds home game at
Great American Ball Park.

The recognition is part of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center's
Pepsi Everyday Freedom Hero program, a Pepsi-Cola underwritten program that
celebrates individuals who expand or defend freedom. The Cincinnati Reds are
honoring Everyday Freedom Heroes at five games on their 2006 schedule, with
Wednesday's game to be followed by one remaining day game on September 14th.

Diedra Thacker, a junior at Grant Vocational School and a nine year member of the
Boys & Girls Club of Clermont County, hopes to one day buy property in New
Richmond to open a youth home.  She wants to provide a place where teens that
no longer live with their parents will have a place to call their own, where they will
receive guidance and encouragement, where they learn to be contributors to
society.

"In today's world, it is very important that we honor those in our midst who display
their willingness to help others and for their spirit of courage, cooperation and
perseverance," said John Pepper, CEO of the Freedom Center.

Heroes are nominated by community members on the Freedom Center's Web site,
as well as by schools, the Boys & Girls Club and the Freedom Center's media
partner, WCPO-TV, Channel 9.  As part of the Reds' Freedom Center promotion,
fans at the games can also nominate their own Pepsi Everyday Freedom Heroes at
GABP's two fan accommodations stations.

Anyone attending the Freedom Center games at Great American Ball Park will be
able to use their ticket stub to receive a buy-one-get-one free admission to the
Freedom Center. Additionally, Freedom Center members can purchase $5-off Reds
tickets, in select seating areas, to any of the designated games.
